Salomon X Ultra 3 vs Ultra 4 GTX: Updates & Key Differences
The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX has some improvements compared to the X Ultra 3. The Salomon Team updated the heel, trimmed the weight a bit and redesigned the chassis. The new heel design has a smoother transition and works great on rugged terrain. It lands safely, ensures less effort but more effective. The new version is almost 30 gr lighter than its predecessor. Redesigned chassis is more rigid at the midfoot zone, although the forefoot zone has an increased flexibility. The New X Ultra 4 GTX has a great balance and toe off control.
We had no fear of rough terrain or up/downhill with the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX. It is very suitable for on/off the trail with an excellent traction. Its injected EVA midsole stiffens the shoe and makes it more suitable on loose terrain. It is one of the best trail hiking shoes in the market place.
It is as comfortable as a trail runner and its stiff material softens over time which makes it very suitable for long hikes with a pack. Besides that based on our water resistance tests, The Salomon X Ultra 4 Low GTX Hiking Shoes showed a perfect performance. Therefore, the Salomon Men’s X Ultra 4 GTX Hiking Shoes is another pick for the best long distance hiking shoes.
The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX has Quicklace sytem, which enhance the convenience. The shortcoming of the Quicklace system could be that not being able to adjust the tightness of the different parts of upper. We didn’t encounter with any durability issue with this system, yet it may be broken over time.
Apart from this, since the Quicklace System of the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX covers the foot perfectly, it makes you feel that the shoes are made for your feet only.
Moreover, we found the Salomon Men’s X Ultra 4 Hiking Shoes very supportive; it wraps around the foot and saved our foot in unstable situations.
When we evaluated its fit, it is not suitable for narrow feet. It is a bit roomier than the other shoes we tested. Therefore, we also picked the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX Men’s Waterproof Shoes as the best hiking shoes for wide feet.
The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX is a hiking shoe that you can count on under the though circumstances. It is our favorite aggressive hiking shoe, and highly recommended.
