The new heel design has a smoother transition and works great on rugged terrain. It lands safely, ensures less effort but more effective. The new version is almost 30 gr lighter than its predecessor. The Highlights:

Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX Hiking Shoe Review

We had no fear of rough terrain or up/downhill with the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX. It is very suitable for on/off the trail with an excellent traction. Its injected EVA midsole stiffens the shoe and makes it more suitable on loose terrain. It is one of the best trail hiking shoes in the market place.

It is as comfortable as a trail runner and its stiff material softens over time which makes it very suitable for long hikes with a pack. Besides that based on our water resistance tests, The Salomon X Ultra 4 Low GTX Hiking Shoes showed a perfect performance. Therefore, the Salomon Men’s X Ultra 4 GTX Hiking Shoes is another pick for the best long distance hiking shoes.

The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX has Quicklace sytem, which enhance the convenience. The shortcoming of the Quicklace system could be that not being able to adjust the tightness of the different parts of upper. We didn’t encounter with any durability issue with this system, yet it may be broken over time.

Apart from this, since the Quicklace System of the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX covers the foot perfectly, it makes you feel that the shoes are made for your feet only.

Moreover, we found the Salomon Men’s X Ultra 4 Hiking Shoes very supportive; it wraps around the foot and saved our foot in unstable situations.

When we evaluated its fit, it is not suitable for narrow feet. It is a bit roomier than the other shoes we tested. Therefore, we also picked the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX Men’s Waterproof Shoes as the best hiking shoes for wide feet.

The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX is a hiking shoe that you can count on under the though circumstances. It is our favorite aggressive hiking shoe, and highly recommended.

Salomon XA Pro 3d vs X Ultra 4

We compared Salomon XA Pro 3d vs X Ultra 4, and would like to share the key differences between them. Briefly, the winner is the Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX.

We assessed and compared them for the hiking purpose of use, although XA Pro 3d is a trail running shoe.

First of all, the Salomon X Ultra 4 is a hiking shoe, whereas the Salomon XA Pro 3d is a trail running shoe. At first glance, the purpose of use is the key differences between them. Nevertheless, we would like to assess how good the XA Pro 3d will be on hiking compared to the X Ultra 4.

The Salomon XA Pro 3D is not suitable for rocky trail, since it is midsole is thinner than the X Ultra 4. Also, the X Ultra 4’s midsole is cushier and its sole is more grippy and therefore it is better to use for trekking in the mountains.

Considering the durability, the lugs of the Salomon X Ultra 4 wear faster than XA Pro 3D. We guess the reason behind that is the long period of abuse of the X Ultra 4 on the hard surfaces all the time, whereas the XA Pro 3D was being used on the road or sidewalk and has smaller lugs.

We found that the Salomon XA Pro 3D is as heavy as hiking shoes. The X Ultra 4 and XA Pro 3D are almost at the same weight!

The Salomon X Ultra 4 is more versatile, and it is a perfect hiking shoe.
